The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustive technique for pregnant women that facilitates biomechanical balance in pelvic joints, muscles and ligaments. It has been shown to greatly reduce the incidence of breech presentation, and in the case of an already breech presentation, this technique can help decrease intrauterine constraint allowing the child to move into vertex (head down) position naturally on his/her own. Sacral and pelvic misalignment causes tightening and torsion of specific pelvic muscles and ligaments. It is these tense muscles and ligaments and the constraining effect they put on the uterus that can prevent the baby from assuming the best possible position for birth. It should be noted that the Webster Technique is in no way an obstetric breech-turning technique. The technique focuses on the biomechanics of the mother’s sacrum and surrounding pelvic muscles and ligaments allowing the baby to naturally get into the best possible position for birth on its own, with the latest research showing an 82% success rate using this technique(1).

Why choose Chiropractic during pregnancy?
During pregnancy, a woman’s center of gravity shifts, and the spine alters itself to accommodate this change. As a result, many expectant mothers may experience low back pain, pelvic pain, and sciatica. Pregnancy is also hard on the neck and shoulders. Due to an increase in breast tissue, the shoulders can become rounded forward, placing tremendous pressure on the spine, neck and shoulders. This can cause headaches, spinal pain, and carpal tunnel symptoms. These stresses and strains can be relieved with regular Chiropractic care. Chiropractic care has also been shown to decrease the pain and length of time of labor(2).
